Pain in my shoulder - anyone had similar? or doctor who could help :) ??

Hello, over the last few days(say 4-5) i have been getting a sharp pain in my shoulder blade (kind of in the joint), it is ok when my arm is still but when i move it -particularly in an upward movement i get pains in my shoulder and towards/up my neck. Sometimes the pain seems to migrate so it is not only in the shoulder but also moves in chest next to the shoulder and also the neck. It feels nervy, perhaps trapped nerve? i do weights and various racket sports, so one of these could ahve caused it i suppose- but i didnt notice at the time. Its not getting better as i would have expected and if anything is getting worse. anyone have any suggestions?
cheers
Answer:
I have had this problem and it sounds like a muscular problem that in turn is causing tenderness in the joint too. I can highly recommend seeing a physio. I see a physio for sports injuries and pay privately. Am a nurse by trade so need regular visits.
I would also recommend the use of woodlock oil in which you can get from a Chinese herbalist. Works wonders for me. lovely rubbed on the painful area.
take pain relief tablets such as paracetamol.
If money is tight then see your GP who will refer you for physio however there is often a long waiting list.
sorry doctor who cant help
It could be 'frozen shoulder'. A very painful condition which, when I suffered from it some years ago, required a stay in hospital, treatment with injections %26 manipulation under general anaesthetic, followed by physio.
I think you have tendinitis...can be very painful and the pain will radiate throughout the area where the pain comes from.
Are you having trouble with the movement i.e. if you put your arm around the back can you no longer reach up as far as you could. If so it could be something like I had a few months ago and the pain was bad but I was more worried about losing the mobility. Take advice on this and if it is suggested you do physio exercises. make sure you do as my arm is now back to normal.
Ive had same problems went for ct scan and found out i have two vertebra's and trapped nerve if this is any use for you
As your symptoms are aggravated by movement the likelihood is that it is mechanical (muscle/ligament/joint) in nature. It is not uncommon for people to slightly misalign a rib which can be extremely painful. This will give a pain just next to the spine and will radiate around the line of the rib affected. When you raise your arm the muscles that fix the shoulderblade to the ribcage will pull on the rib exacerbating the problem. People often complain of pain in either breathing in or out or when bending the body to one side or other. This sort of injury can even be affected by head movements, pulling when looking down for instance.Try gentle arm and body movements, preceeded by warmth, to relax local muscles. Maybe consult your GP for anti-inflammatory medication as this can help to settle pain.If things don't settle after a week then visit a local musculo-skeletal therapist (osteopath/chiropracter) who should be able to ease things in 1-2 sessions. Also important to mention the necessity to stretch and warm up thoroughly before any physical activity to prevent recurrenceHope this helps
