Pain in calf, upper butt, and lower back while jogging?

I am a big fan of jogging as a means of keeping in shape. I don't do it religiously like I should, but I like to get out there at least once a week. The past couple years I have been getting pains in my lower back, as well as my right calf, and right upper buttocks muscles. I stretch thoroughly before jogging, but no matter how long I do it always ends up hurting, and I feel it really slows me down. It is apparent that my right leg is shorter than my left, and I was wondering if this could be creating the problem. Should I see a specialist about trying to correct this problem? Any information would be helpful.
Answer:
sounds like possible sciatic nerve pain or a bulging disc both of which can cause pain to reflect or radiate to the other locations that you described. Anti Inflammatories OTC may help some but I think you should see a doctor
could be sciatica.caused by lower back issues that just tend to throw everything else out of whack. Hope you feel better soon.
Sounds like a pinched nerve, but could be something worse or not.Hard to tell without seeing you.Good luck.I would try a heating pad meanwhile and see if that helps.
I have a similar problem caused by spinal stenosis. The spinal column is too narrow to accomodate the nerve bundle and the nerves leading from the back down to the hips and legs get pinched. I would talk to your doctor and/or a neuro-surgeon. They tell me that over time permanent nerve damage can occur. I've been trying to get my schedule opened up enough to have surgery on my back.
try a lower impact sport for a while and see a Dr you could have injured your back in almost anything you've done (not necessarily jogging) to see whats causing it
You may need to get new tennis shoes. Shoes need to be replaced every 500 miles jogged.
Sciatic nerve pain or a bulging disc or slipped disc. If it ever ruptures you will know it, and you certainly will not be jogging. I had lower back pain for years, then one day I sneezed and slipped a disc. I went to a Chiropractor and he ruptured it, I truly believe. The sneeze was the straw that broke the camels back, so to speak. It had to do with everything from my posture, to the beating I gave my body in years prior. I was a hard nosed 3 star athlete in high school and played two years of college football. For backs, I recommend no less than a neurosurgeon, an orthopedic wanted to operate on me. A neurosurgeon gave me other options, that may have put off surgery forever. I am healthier now playing adult league soccer.
