Ovarian cysts - treating them by prescription meds causes me other problems, any simple cure or advice?

The last couple years, I have been having odd periods meaning 2 days this month, then maybe skip a month then maybe 5-6 days etc. This causes me to get ovarian cysts -sometimes large. My Dr. has given me birth control (lowest dose) and single hormones which always takes them away within a month but the pills cause other problems. Like occasional on/off numbness/tingling in my lower left leg (Vein dr says my veins look great when I was tested while not on the pill), or a mouth FULL of canker sores on the latest one..Yaz. Is there any natural magic cure or something I can do or take to help me be regular so I wont get these? And why do I even get them? I never used to. What did I do wrong? Thanks very much.
Answer:
First of all I promise that you did nothing wrong. Everyone, EVERYONE gets ovarian cysts. (Mine get really bad too, some even as large as a football, and then they have to do surgery.) Most cysts burst whenever you get your period, and they arent a big deal. Some do not, and you have to take medicine to control them. Which means in a nutshell regulating your periods, so that the cysts stay small and burst each month like they are supposed to.If the pill is making you have funky side effects, that are bothersome, call your doctor. Tell him the side effects, and ask him to try something else. There are TONS of different kinds of birth control pills out there. One of them will work for you, I promise, you just have to find the right one. I dont know of any natural remedies to this problem, and you shouldnt take anything, even regular vitamins while on hormones without clearing it with your doctor first. (Found that out the hard way, got sick as a dog, and wound up in the ER). Its a game of trial and error, and finding out what works best for your body. If your doctor complains at all about trying a new medicine, then find a new one. Mine gave me free samples until we found one that worked for me. Then she wrote the perscription.Good Luck! Cysts arent fun, but when you find the right pill, they will be much more manageable, I promise.
Ive had ovarion cysts b4 .my mother is a ultrasound tech and step fathers a surgen ..they said its not a big deal usually they pop and go away after your period and if they dont go away and they get bigger and stay then u can get them surgically removed. When i had my cysts my periods were abnormal too. When my cysts went away i was normal for one month then the cysts would come bak and my periods would start coming later in the month than usual or somtimes wouldnt come at all.
Sadly there are no true "easy" answers...and you did not cause them. If you have cysts caused by PCOS, losing weight will help more than any medication. You may also ask to be put on glucophage which will help with other symptoms...also they may offer you an IUD which has fewer side effects but is a more intrusive form of birth control.Good luck to you. You are not alone.
You're probably not doing any thing wrong. The fact that you're this aware is evidence of your awareness of your health. There is something going on and you need to stay aware. I know you wanted me to have told you of a magic pill, but things aren't always that simplistic. There's something else going on, and I'd have your doctor refer you to a university clinic if it persists. I took my daughter to the University of Michigan clinic. It took a couple of months to get in and they got to the root of the problem for a total cost of $25. Great people. Stay on it; best wishes.
