My little finger broke (at around the second knuckle) about 3 weeks ago and i went to the doctor and did all the procedures required. After 3 weeks I took off the splint (what the doctor told me to do) but the finger is still swollen at the base. And now i could barely bend it . What should i do
P.S i am only 13 years old
Answer:
Go back to the DrI broke mine about a month ago (slammed it in a heavy gates locking bar while working a beer festival - wouldn't have minded but I was sober), luckily only the bottom joint, and on my right hand (I'm left handed), and had no treatment. It's still sore (in fact hurts like hell now as just typed with it) but no swelling so you need to be checked out
go back to the doctor
soak it in Epsom salt
Don't worry mmy dear, its normal. Usually broken finger heals within three months time. Don't forced your finger to bend, it hurts. It's better if you will not touched it often, natyrally the swelling will subside after a few weeks but still the pain is there. It will heal completely after three months.
If your finger's broken at the second knuckle and swollen at the base you have something else going on and it needs to be evaluated.
In general, swelling is your body's way of speeding up the healing process. After the second day after an injury, the swelling should stop. Meaning that something is still probably injured in the area that's swollen.
My son broke his scapula and the radiologist that read his xray didn't catch it. It took another doc to figure it out.
Maybe they missed something. Good luck.
The good news is : you are 13 years old, you should recovered sooner than older. The bad news is. littlefinger is weak joint, bones and muscles, mean, take a longer time to recovery ( it happened to me once in my thumb, the only i did was ice compressing on thespot so it didnt get worsen but took longet than a month to total recovery).
There is a kind of supplementthat you can consume, with active ingredients called msm etc. But i suggest you dont need it ( fitness people use it mostly). Or, take sesame oil to cover the broken area, but dont massage it. sesame oil is good for bones and joints.
Go to doctor to check further progress, ask him does ice compress help the swollen or not, in my experience, it is helping much anykind of swollen.
So, from now on, think to make your fingers flexible and stronger, any injury will recover sooner than you think.
you should soak it in warm water and GENTLY try to bend it. if it doesnt feel better in 2 days after taking the splint off you should go to the doctor. it may not be healed all the way. good luck and god bless

Question about a back injury?
My boyfriend hurt his back while he was at work, he was pulling really hard on a wire for about 5 min. and he can't hardly move. this has been going on for about 4 days and i was just wondering should he go see an orthopedic surgeon first or a chiropractor? I feel that an orthopedic surgeon will just try and push surgeory on him. also if anyone has any experience with inversion tables. we have access to one but he is afraid he will hurt his back more on that and i said no. any help would be appreciated.
Answer:
First let me say that I have chronic pain from several back surgeries so I understand how painful back pain is. Please don't try to use an inversion table or anything like that without having xrays or an MRI done first. My suggestion is that he go to his General Practioner first and get the xrays and possibly some physical therapy. Stay away from chiropractors until you know there isn't anything seriously wrong. Chiropractors can help in some instances, but can also make some injuries worse in the long run. I agree to make the Orthopaedic Surgeon your last resort, because they do usually opt for surgery. Xrays and an MRI can show if it is a disc or a muscle problem and then it will be easier to determine the best treatment from there. I wish you much luck and hope he feels better soon. Trust me, you don't want to end up like me.
i don't know what that means
Well, i think your best bet would be to go to the chiropractor. But if that does'nt work then i think you should contact his doctor and get advice on how to heal it.
Well, I think he just pulled a muscle doing a wrong movement or overstressing the back. I don't think surgery will be the first thing. Back injuries never go away quickly, so expect your boyfriend to be suffering for a couple more days...but take him to the chiropractor first. He can tell whether it is just a matter of painkiller pumping or a surgical intervention is needed. My guess is he pulled a muscle, and since the back supports almost everything...any movement is painful. Seriously, he needs to get checked in any case because the back is so important...and if in case it is something more than just a pulled muscle, you have to treat it early because over time if it isn't treated...the pain will get worse and treatment will be harder.
try the chiropractor. If they are reputable they will not do anything to him if there is something major wrong that they would hurt. Stay away afrom the inversion table . If it is nerve damage the inversion table could cause more damage.
You should have him visit a doctor first. Might just be some pulled muscles. If it's worse than I'm sure the doctor would be the one best suited to refer him to treatment.
He needs to start with reporting the injury to his supervisor and request a workman's comp doctor.
Sounds like a strained/pulled muscle that muscle relaxants and a couple of days in bed would cure it.
From there, Workman's comp will do physical therapy.
If that fails, after a given time, push for an orthopedic surgeon and most of them will take other options before surgery.
First of all I hope he filled out all the Workers Comp papers and if not get that taken care of asap and then go to the chiropractor so they can take xrays and see what is going on in there. Chiropractors are wonderful. They can really help. Both my Father and I have had back injuries on the job and they have helped us quite a bit. He has paid into Worker's Comp so let them pay for everything including time off if work and pain and suffering. Never settle on your medical with them.

Qtips good or bad?
i was told that when you use a qtip to clean your ears all you are doing is pushing the wax back in ...is that true. I use qtips all the time b/c if i dont how am i suppost to get the wax out?
Answer:
Q tips are seriously bad - ask any doctor. All it does is compact the wax - push it further in your ear, and you can rupture an ear drum too. What to do instead is use olive oil - a few drops every night in your ears for a week. Then after that, use a syringe thing to send water in your ear, and the wax will come out.
you guys think that Qtips are evil? wow...
I used to use Q-Tips, but they somehow made my sinusitis even worse. I now use an earwax remover I purchased at Walgreens. They're really inexpensive, you can get one for at least $3.
I have heard that it's bad for your eardrum, I'm not sure if it pushes the wax back.
Q-Tips: bad. If you have an ear wax problem, do some research about different methods of periodic cleansing: kits, ear baths, etc. You will then find your personal solution - but do give up the daily Q-Tip regime

QME visits and what the heck happens?
I saw a QME doctor in 11/06 %26 I was told I would be given a reg. doc as soon as the report came in. I have begged and fought since then %26 finally went today 4 what I thought was a reg. doc. He asked me a few ques. %26 then said I'll send your attorney a report. No test , no RX nothing. I have waited over 7 months no treatment at all. This felt like another QME visit. I just don't understand what the heck is going on. I have been denied treatment this long, how much longer can the attorney's office possibly go before they are considered legally neglegent in my medical treatment. Please give me some advise if you know anything about the QME or workers comp system. Thanks

I was injured on the job 2 years ago, ( rotator cuff) and nothing was ever done.
The job made it difficult to follow through.
I live in NY so I dont know how things work where you are, but good luck
It depends on what your symptoms are and what doubts they have about the diagnosis. Maybe they think you're just a hypochondriac. How can you be sure you aren't?

Q. does anybody else feel like those characters in "waiting for god" besides me?
i stay busy but there is no point really. hard to just diddle with the tomatoes and refinish the old desk. feed the birds and cat. juice some carrots for lunch and fill out insurance papers. call son far away. stay calm and don't get overheated. the ticker is weak and diabetes constantly causes one problem or another. acceptance and maintaining a shred of dignity and waiting. might be years yet. anybody like that to comment? i am 65 and ailing but really smart some days. not smart many days. like the people on the show. understand?
Answer:
Ah you got years to go yet. Join a club or two that gets you out of the house, make a few new friends- i know people sho lives are in a far more serious way and they make the most of it by living and enjoying the moment- doing their best to have some fun and some friends. Look for something else cos your a long time dead mate.
Sometimes.
It's *Waiting For Godot*Oh.
Sorry.
I'm 30.
I'm gay.
I'm Jewish.
I'm Australian.
No wonder we don't/can't/won't relate to each other.
I've never seen the show, but it sounds like you may be depressed? I certainly could understand if you were, being sick and all. I'm sorry you are going through this and hope that your family and friends can be there for you. In the meantime, why not call your local house of worship and ask to be visited? You may make some new friends and find something else to help you keep busy. God bless you!
hey kid im 45 but i hear you im there too xxx
I'm not waiting, I'm just existing. Sometimes I get the sensation I'm just hanging around to see what happens next. Usually it's interesting, sometimes it's aggravating, but I just keep hanging around to see what happens next...I need a hobby.P.S. Controversy -- there is a British telly show called "Waiting for God" -- it's a comedy.
You need to get out and get involved in life. There are people much worse off than you who could use a helping hand or some encouragement. You could volunteer to read to children, write letters for the disabled, or help out at a hospital or veterans' home. 65 is not old these day. I'm older than you and I'm not ready to give up by a long shot.
Oh yes, I understand. Thank you for the wonderful insights in your words.
OK I am 67, have high blood pressure, sub clinical coeliac disease, arthritis and prostate problems. But few men of my (our) age have nothing wrong with them. I walk 5-10 miles 3 or 4 (sometimes 5) times a week, I cook, read, write. . OK maybe not too well but I do it. .I google the Internet for new recipes, I have a running battle with HM Inland revenue over a pathetically small amount of tax.I get angry, upset, I laugh go to social functions. . like you my smartness varies but even that can be amusing. In short I have a life. But I have to work at it.Then I see on TV about 10 year old Africans stolen from their parents and taken into slavery to produce chocolate beans. . then feller, I KNOW I am well off.

Pus coming outof my toe?
I cut my toe,on the side, between the toenail and skin, now it has pus coming out.Should I be worried.Could it get worse?
Answer:
1] soak it in warm soapy water FOUR times a day, and put antibiotic ointment and a bandaid on it in between.
2] if not better by fri AM, go to doctor
3] any 'dirty' cut should be scrubbed out, and have antibiotic ointment at least until a scab forms!
Yes it can get worse. Go see your doc and get some antibiotics for this.
Soak it in hot water with about 3 tablespoons of salt to a gallon.Do this 2 x a day %26 dry it well after each soak %26 put a peice of gauze on it %26 put on a clean white sock.
It will be gone in no time.
An alcohol soaked cloth applied for 30 min 2 or 3 x a day does the trick also.
waaaah run to the dr. step 1: procure alcohol or peroxide and antibiotic cream.
step 2: clean affected area with alcohol/peroxide procured in step 1.
step 3: apply antibiotic cream
step 4: repeat several times per day until healed.optional step 5: apply ice to the area if it becomes swollen and/or painful during treatment.
Yes, take your self to the doc.
One word: infection!
Oh, and another one, just in case you don't go to the doctor: gangrene!
you have an infection. you should wash your feet and soak it in epsom salts and hot water for about 20 minutes three time a day. Or you can go to the doctor and get some antibiotics. I'd try the epsom salts first it's cheaper, And yes it can get worse if not treated.
i would use neosporin or triple antibiotic-yes it can get bad
My mom had the same condition before. She went to the doctor. I don't know what the doc did,(I daren't see!) but i think the doc did make the pus come out of her big toe, so that it wouldn't hurt so much. i must say it really did hurt for her, but after the doc finish doing her work, she appeared to relax a lot. The doc gave her some lotion, antibiotics and all that. Maybe you should go too. I'm sure you will feel better in no time.

Pulse is 111- (at rest). BP normal. SHOULD I BE ALARMED ?
I have taken several times over last hour and am feeling physically edgy. Is this indicitive of pending stroke? or.. what? Please clarify.
Thank you kindly.
Answer:
Not indicative of a pending stroke - which usually has no symptoms before it actually occurs. May be an anxiety attack, too much caffeine, medication you are taking such as antihistamines or another type of problem. Call your doctor or go to an urgent care.
Nah, your probably just nervous and getting yourself worked up.
uhmm get some help!
have you smoked any crack today?
Relax and take a muscle relaxant.
No, the pulse is too fast the normal limit is usually 100. Also If u are feeling unusual then I advise u to go to the ER or call doctor IMMEDIATLY, get off the computer....
take a shower, lay down for 15 20 mins. relax. then try again. You want it to be around 60-80.
thats a pretty high resting heart rate. You feeling edgy is not helping the situation, you need to be calm when taking your pulse instead of nervous. And no its not indicitive of a pending stroke. Heart rate is the first to go up, more than BP. So your probably anxious.
a normal pulse is 67-80. Are you nervous..taken anything lately?
Thank you kindly.
